Senior Manager, Technical Accounting

Maxar Technologies has an immediate opening for a Senior Manager of Technical Accounting. This individual will report to the Director of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting and will interface with personnel at various levels of the Company, as well as external auditors. Primary responsibilities include accounting research, drafting accounting policies and memos, and providing technical support to members of finance and business unit leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the transition from IFRS to US GAAP
  • Review new contracts and assess the accounting implications based on existing accounting standards, interpretations or regulations
  • Prepare or review timely, high quality white papers on all key technical matters and manage the timely resolution of financial reporting implications
  • Serve as a Company-wide technical accounting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives
  • Research, evaluate and document technical accounting implications of complex or non-standard transactions (e.g., M&A, hedge accounting)
  • Maintain accounting policies manual and assist in updating or developing new policies to ensure consistency and compliance with GAAP and SEC requirements
  • Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards
  • Build strong relationships with finance business partners and other business unit leadership to ensure accounting issues are identified on a timely basis
  • Ensure business units are adhering to financial policies, practices, and procedures
  • Coordinate with FP&A to ensure forecast is appropriately tracking to expected accounting treatment
  • Coordinate audit review of technical accounting matters
  • Develop technical accounting team through coaching and feedback on results
  • Review quarterly and annual financial reports, and provide support as requested
  • Perform special projects or duties as required within the finance department

Basic Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 5 years of public accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or a related field
  • CPA required
  • Previous experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles with an excellent command of US GAAP and the ability to research technical issues
  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-accountants
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and with people in other functions
  • Ability to be a change agent for implementing new ideas and process improvements
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner
  • Detail-oriented with superior analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Experience with Sarbanes Oxley and SEC reporting
  • US Citizen or permanent resident required
  • Ability to travel domestic and international
