Meet Our Panelists

Emily Pancake (g70)
Emily worked in many different fields before learning to code. She has a B.A. in Humanities, a Master's of Library and Information Science, and experience working in Elections and as a Technical Writer in the medical device industry. In 2017 she eased into coding with a Galvanize evening JavaScript class, and then started in Galvanizes Web Dev Immersive in October of 2017, graduating in April 2018. Within six weeks of graduation she had her first day as a software developer. At Pinnacol Assurance, a workers compensation insurance company Emily learned an entirely new stack with Angular and Ruby on Rails. One year later she has just started her second coding job, this time as a Software Engineer at Travelers Haven where she is using React, AngularJS, and Ruby on Rails. Travelers Haven is one of the largest corporate housing companies in the country.

Amber Johnson (g70)
In 2012, Amber graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with degrees in art and music. Unsurprisingly, her next move was to get a job at a coffee shop. She eventually explored other options, such as administrative work and substitute teaching. But she likes money, and wanted more of it. So, Amber decided to attend the Web Development Immersive at Galvanize. Her first job was at Ideas By Nature, an agency focused on blockchain technology, where she got to hone her backend skills with TypeScript and Kotlin. After massive layoffs, Amber found her second job at Ibotta, where she is a Platform Engineer working in Ruby on Rails and Java. In her spare time, she enjoys crocheting, backpacking and cats.

Michael Roque (g38)
Michael moved to Colorado 6 years ago and began working for a small software startup in Denver as a sort of “jack of all trades”. During his 2.5 years there he picked up the basics of JavaScript and C# before, unfortunately, the company went under. Instead of immediately going back to work he decided to continue his education at Galvanize in 2016. After graduation Michael began working as a contractor helping to build applications using Angular for about a year. He began working as software developer for a software consulting company where he learned C# on the job. After being part of a large layoff he began working at The North Face as a frontend developer as his second development job. Michael looks forward to leading a team of developers in the future.

Bethany Mitch (g102)
Bethany graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a B.A. in Mass Communication and a minor in Web Design & Development. After college Bethany entered into the Advertising industry working as an Analytics Intern and New Business & Brand Development Coordinator. She then took a brief break from the typical office job as she worked as a Professional Dog Hiker, Rock Climbing Instructor, Educator, and Marketing Consultant. After three years of living seasonally, Bethany signed up for Galvanize's Web Development Immersive program to regain knowledge in the world of coding. A few weeks before graduation, Bethany received an offer to work at Backbone PLM as a Software Engineer on contract working in Angular 7 writing JavaScript code. After 5 months of contract work, Bethany received an offer from AbsenceSoft to work as a Software Engineer to update their AngularJS application to React.
