From game nights to Fitbits, here are 6 Colorado companies' wellness initiatives

Sometimes working for a startup can feel like we live to work, and not the other way around. With crazy hours, funding challenges and the oh-so-tempting beer fridge in the office kitchen, it’s easy to put our health and wellness on the back burner.

However, some companies are starting to take note and are offering health-boosting options like healthy snacks and sit-stand desks.

These Colorado startups take employee health and wellness to the next level, offering perks designed to get employees moving and living well.

Among other benefits and perks, the cybersecurity giant offers generous fitness-related perks to their employees, including discounts on yoga memberships and reimbursements for race fees and other athletic events. Plus, Webroot’s Broomfield office is across the street from an open space park with a stunning view of the Flatirons.

Zen Planner builds software for gyms and other fitness businesses like dance and yoga studios, so it makes sense they’d want their employees to have plenty of opportunities to earn some endorphins. The Littleton company offers tuition reimbursement for fitness certification and group fitness classes for employees, meaning you can have your Zumba and teach it, too.

Boulderites are known to be a pretty active bunch. Cycling, hiking and competing in triathlons of epic scale are standard daily activities — not to mention the city’s proclivity for kale smoothies and date nights spent at Whole Foods. Boulder culture makes it easy for the employees at Boulder’s SolidFire to take advantage of the company’s wellness incentives, which reward employees up to $500 annually for healthy actions.

Even though companies are required by law to offer health insurance to their employees, they're not required to subsidize the cost of monthly premiums, which can sometimes be a huge financial burden on an employee. Company-paid health insurance is awesome, especially if the company covers it 100 percent. Boulder’s Kapost takes this perk to the next level — the content marketing SaaS startup provides medical and dental insurance that is 100 percent paid by the company not only for employees, but for their families as well.

Brandfolder’s employees get a mental and social boost from company-hosted game nights every month. The cloud-based brand asset management startup also covers medical, dental and vision insurance 100 percent, and employees have access to the gym and outdoor pool at Denver’s TAXI complex.

Maybe it’s a copout to include a healthtech company in this list (because duh), but iTriage’s health and wellness benefits are pretty sweet. The Denver company has an onsite gym (and showers with towel service). And they shell out $400 every year for each employee to spend on organized fitness event fees and other wellness costs like at-home exercise equipment or a Fitbit.
